Lawmakers were urged Tuesday night to recognize the growing numbers of Hispanics in the Mid-Valley as they proceed to redraw legislative district lines after the 2010 Census.
"Race and ethnicity cannot be the only determining factors when considering redrawing lines," said Robin Wright of Salem, policy analyst for CAUSA, Oregon's immigrant-rights coalition. "Yet it is important to note that Latinos in this area do form strong communities of interest in cities and rural areas."
