Statement by José Calderón, on the NYS Senate Confirmation Hearing of Jenny Rivera
New York, NY February 7, 2013 – “Hispanic Federation is deeply troubled by the New York State Senate Judiciary Committee's failure to support and fully endorse Jenny Rivera, who was nominated by Governor Cuomo to the State Court of Appeals," said José Calderón, President of the Hispanic Federation.
"We are confident that the full Senate will approve her nomination once they thoroughly review her extensive court experience including her work as an administrative law judge at the State Division of Human Rights and her litigation record with the Puerto Rican Legal Defense & Education Fund, the Legal Aid Society and the State Attorney General's Office. Moreover, we know Professor Rivera will bring a breadth of professional and cultural perspective that will only serve to make our courts more reflective of our great state and the values New Yorkers hold dear.”
The mission of the Hispanic Federation is to empower and advance the Hispanic community. The Hispanic Federation provides grants and services to a broad network of Latino non-profit agencies serving the most vulnerable members of the Hispanic community and advocates nationally with respect to the vital issues of education, health, immigration, economic empowerment, civic engagement and the environment.
