LatinoJustice PRLDEF’s Social Media Strategist Jazmin Chavez Named One of MillerCoors’ Líderes of the Year
Jazmin Chavez, Latinojustice PRLDEF’s Coordinator of Communications and Digital Outreach, has been recognized as one of 12 Hispanic leaders who are helping to advance Latino communities across the country. MillerCoors recently announced that Jazmin is one of the 2013 MillerCoors Lideres of the Year finalists. One leader will be chosen as the MillerCoors Lider of the Year and the organization they represent will receive a $25,000 grant for a community leadership project.
Jazmin has been at LatinoJustice PRLDEF for almost 18 months where she has developed and expanded LJP’s youth leadership program. The Youth Leadership Network has trained hundreds of young people in using social media and other digital tools to campaign for their communities, change police policies, fight for fair Comprehensive Immigration Reform policies and become agents of change in their communities.
“Jazmin’s passion and commitment to creating and fostering change-makers is critical to the future of our community,” said Juan Cartagena, President and General Counsel, LatinoJustice PRLDEF. “Historically, change comes from the ground up and training young people to lead and take control of their own future is critical to our mission. Jazmin has played an important role in making these change-makers significant players in their communities.”
Jazmin was born in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. She is a longtime passionate advocate and strategist for civil rights, dedicating her professional life to becoming an effective innovator for communities in need. She is a featured writer for Being Latino and the Huffington Post and was named a Gen-Y Millennial Influencer. She has presented at Netroots Nation, Social Media Week NY and LATISM and was named New York's top 40 under 40 Rising Star for 2013.
